PRIMARY POWER WHEN TOURING After camping overnight and driving till midday to next campsite, the alternator will be a primary source of power. The energy delivered in 1-2 hours is more than most solar systems in an entire day. BACKUP POWER WHEN CAMPING After nding the perfect campsite, the alter- nator will be a backup source of power. In poor weather, or if touring southern Victoria or tasmania, back-up power is essential. It is far more convenient and economical to run the alternator for 1 hour than a Honda EU20 (2kW) for 1-2 hours to produce a similar result. SCOTTY Scotty extracts the power from an alternator and transfers it to the 48V side. However, it is bi-directional. So when the alternator is not running, the power ows from the 48V side to the 12V side easily. ALTERNATOR CONTROLLER An Anternator controller is dierent to Scotty. It regulates the alternator and drives the power through the alternator’s eld circuit. It cant be used with Smart Alternators.
